les chateaux de la loire

The Val de Loire, listed on the world heritage of UNESCO, is not only rich in sumptuous Châteaux but also in flora and fauna.

At Orchaise, a village just 10 km north of Onzain, the botanical gardens have a collection of over 2,600 varieties of plants : azaleas, rhododendrons, roses bloom there in profusion.

At Chambord, there are some 800 deer and about 1,500 wild boar in the forest, which is thus the largest hunting preserve in Europe, and a practically unchanged sanctuary since the times of Francis I.

At Bourré, 20 km south of Onzain, the Cave des Roches offers an outstanding visit : in 120 km of galleries, 50 m underground on 7 levels and a natural atmosphere of 13° C, button mushrooms or yellow oyster mushrooms are grown in the traditional style, and highly valued by gastronomic restaurants.

Whether you are on foot, on a bike, on horseback, in a boat or in a canoe, or even in a montgolfier balloon, any means will do to appreciate the treasures of our area.

From Onzain, within 30 minutes’ drive, you can go to the Châteaux of Blois, Chambord, Cheverny, Chenonceau, Amboise, Fougères-sur-Bièvre and many others. A host of web sites to plan your outings can be visited ; among others :
